This image is of a drawing, painting, print, or other two-dimensional work of art, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the artist who produced the image, the person who commissioned the work, or the heirs thereof. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of works of art
- for critical commentary on
- the work in question,
- the artistic genre or technique of the work of art or
- the school to which the artist belongs
- on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation,
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Fair use for more information.
To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
The copyright is owned by Mara Vishniac Kohn, heir to Roman Vishniac. I, (Rmrfstar), am attempting to get in contact with her to request a release of some of her father's photos under a free license, but she is quite busy. All photographs of his are owned by her, so no free alternatives could be found. As a temporary solution (hopefully), this photo was found at http://www.singergallery.com/detailed.cfm?artistID=249&start=2&exhibitroomstart=1, using only a Google image search. It is of low-resolution and should not damage the value of the actual work significantly, yet is crucial to an article about the photographer as it is one of his most famous photographs and illustrates well his subject and photographic style.
[edit] Description
The Only Flowers of Her Youth, Warsaw, 1938 by Roman Vishniac The circumstance captured in this photograph is quite an interesting one. The little girl depicted was confined to her bed all winter because she had no shoes. She was kept company only by the flowers on her wall, painted by her artist father.
