Virtual library
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Use Digital Libraries or Electronic Libraries instead.
The term Virtual Libraries is depreciated, as the word virtual refers to being essence or effect only not actual character.
During the first years of the WWW, there was much debate in the world's library communities as to the most accurate descriptor for networked based library services. However, the information, patrons, service and librarians are all real. Hence the decision to use the descriptors Digital libraries or Electronic Libraries.
Please see the entry in the Education Information Resources Center Thesaurus linked below or the American Library Association 's (ALA) resources for more explanation.
