[edit] Story

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The world of Virtua Quest is one where many people shrug off reality, and instead spend their free time in the Nexus, a vast virtual universe. Sei (pronounced "Say"), is a cheerful fellow who's been tapped by his friend, Hayami, into trying out the life of a hunter, one who collects data chips from the far-flung reaches of the Nexus and then sells them for cash. Sei soon gets into a struggle against a mysterious organization, Judgement Six, that's kidnapping hunters while seeking out rare and powerful pieces of data called virtua souls. Virtua souls are the recorded combat data of powerful fighters, cataloged during a tournament in times of old, and they're hidden in scattered servers across the Nexus. Sei must now collect the virtua souls before his foes master the virtua souls' powerful combat techniques.

[edit] Virtua Souls

Virtua Souls can be divided into six categories that include: Strike, Dash, Floater, Charge, Jump, and Throw.

[edit] Strike skills

Strike skills are the second most powerful and difficult skills to execute as a result the player must moving very slowly to use these skills. One specific example of this is the five hit strike skill Lightning Storm, taught by Jacky Bryant, which involves rapid button tapping to execute.

[edit] Dash skills

Dash skills unlike strike skills require the player to run a short distance before becoming useable after the move however the speed that the player had is lost. An example of this is the Dash Hammer Kick this move completely stops the player but deals enough damage to make up for the lost speed.

[edit] Floater skills

Floater skills require the player to be standing still in exchange for this vulnerability the player can throw their opponenent into the air where they can be combo attacked. Some of the other skills are so slow that this stragey is almost required to effectively hit with them.

[edit] Charge skills

Charge skills put quite simply are the most powerful skills in the game the only drawback to them is that the player must hold the charge button for sevral seconds to execute them at full power, altuough this isn't a problem in areas with very few strong opponents but where ever there are swarms of weak enemies, these skills leave much to be desired.

[edit] Jump skills

Jump skills require the player to be in the air, and although some of them are multi-hit, they still are some of the weakest skills in the game. When combined with Sei's 3-hit air combo, however, they can quickly and efficiently hit opponents for medium to high amounts of damage.

[edit] Throw skills

Throw skills can easily stop large swarms of foes by simply incapacitating them. The only visible drawback to them, apart from their speed, is the massive SP (Synapse Points) usage to execute. The player must tap two buttons simultaneously to activate them. When using these skills, the best thing to do is wait until you are surrounded by foes and grab one with a throw skill such as Giant Swing and slam the opponent you grabbed into the others around you.
