[edit] Biography
Virgina Syddall born in 1935 in England, and she has been married to Arthur Henley since 1956. They had two children, and they already have three grandsons. Virginia and her husband live normally in St. Petersburg, Florida (USA), and they spend the hot summers in Ontario (Canada).
Virginia Henley's novels are successful in the sense that they are not typical 'bodice ripper romance' - attention is paid to many details, such as historical events, descriptions of prominent family names or mottos, down to the way the author describes the hero and heroine in her novels. All her books contain a male and female lead, with lots of colourful and animated supporting characters, as well as drama, suspence and twists and turns in the plot.
Virginia Henley is the author of eighteen historical novels, including the New York Times bestsellers Seduced and Desired, as well as three novellas. Her work has been translated into fourteen languages. Henley has won several awards for her work - including praise and rave reivews from Romantic Times Lifetime Achievement Award, Waldenbooks' Bestselling Award, Affaire de Coeur, Heartland Critiques, Maggie Award for Excellence from the Georgia Romance Writers, Rendezvous and USA Today.

[edit] Publishing Houses
When Virginia Henley first started writing her novels, the publishing houses that distributed the books was called Dell Publishing. Her novels from the 1980's to 1992 were all printed by Dell. In 1993, Island Books, a division of Dell Books, began publishing Virginia Henley's works. There is also a distinct way of telling her books from Dell and Island Books apart. Her novels from Dell had illustrated cover pages, with a plot synopsis on the back cover. Her works from Island have a picture of a flower that is blown up in size, with her name and the title of the novel on the front cover. When one turns the cover page, there is an illustration drawn on the inside, showing one the two romantic leads of the novel.
