Virgilio R. Gonzalez was a contract CIA operative and one of the five men recruited by E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy in 1972 for a break-in at the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in the Watergate building in Washington, D.C. Gonzalez was arrested in the Watergate building on June 17, 1972 and convicted in the ensuing Watergate scandal. Earlier, he had worked in Operation 40 and the Bay of Pigs invasion. He was released on parole after serving only 4 months of a one-to-four year sentence.
