[edit] History

Vingåker was a small parish, although the Säfstaholm Castle, built in the 17th century within the current municipal borders, is a noteworthy sight.

[edit] Railway

The expansion began when a railway station was opened along the western main line, (Västra Stambanan from Stockholm to Gothenburg) in 1862, the station was running up until 1971.

1971 was also the year for the most recent Swedish municipal reform, where also the current borders of Vingåker Municipality were established.

[edit] Coat of Arms

The creation of the arms has a peculiar and somewhat romantic story attached to it. It was the first arms created by a parish in the Sörmland province in 1941. It was inspired by a hop plant that some locals had seen on a farm. The left part of the arms, an oak tree, is the inisgnia for the historical Oppunda Hundred, stretching through the municipality.
