Vincenzo Monaldi

Famous Italian physician and physiologist. Born in 1899 in Monte Vidon Combatte (AP). His family lived in Grotazzolina, some of his relatives still live there, two brothers Giulio and Francesco Monaldi emigrated to Argentina. He died in 1969. He was the first Minister of Health of Italy (in 1958 during the government of Prime Minister Fanfani). He was Senator of the Christian Democratic Party. A leading researcher and professor on tuberculosis and other pulmonary diseases. One of the main academic journals of the these fields of medicine, Monaldi Archives of Chest Disease, is named after him. Also, one of the main hospitals in Napoli (Naples, Italy) is named after him.
