Vimmerby City Arms

Vimmerby is a city in south-eastern Sweden. Its has about 7,800 inhabitants and the seat of Vimmerby Municipality.

Stångån is a small river running through the municipality.

The city arms of Vimmerby has a wall on top, which signifies that it once had a charter, unlike many other Municipalities of Sweden. In fact, Vimmerby had its charter as early as the 14th century. The main street, Storgatan still has the shape in which it was built in the medieval time. There are also many old wooden houses in the town of Vimmerby.

Vimmerby is currently a tourist attraction due to historical links with Swedish author Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002). The Astrid Lindgren's World is an amusement park for children that has themes from her books, and is visited by fans of hers from around Sweden and Germany.

When Astrid wrote her books about the country boy Emil in Lönneberga she used much information from her own upbringing on the rural areas of Vimmerby.
