Villanders

Villanders (Italian: Villandro) is a small township in South Tyrol, Italy, near Klausen (Chiusa). It has about 1830 inhabitants and lies 880 m above sea level. More than 98% of the population speaks German, 1.4% Italian and 0.3 % Ladinic.

To reach the city of Villanders you have to drive along a road with 10 curves. Villanders lies on the Villanderer Berg (Mountain of Villanders) and on the top of the Villanderer Berg is the Totensee (Sea of death).

Recently Villanders has become more and more attractive for tourists. The Gasser Hütte, Meir im Plun and the Rinderplatz (cow square) are farmed mountain pastures where tourists can eat and drink. The Totensee and the Totenkirchlein (church of death) are also tourist attractions.
