Village of Ponderosa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Village of Ponderosa is a new real estate development in West Des Moines, Iowa. It was inspired by New Urbanism communities like Celebration, FL. It embraces the concept of smart growth and replaces vehicle-oriented suburban living with proximity and convenience, so every home is within walking distance of parks, plazas, offices and shops. The Village of Ponderosa was developed by LADCO Development of West Des Moines, and construction was started in 2006.
[edit] Description
Ponderosa was originally a 9-hole public golf course. The 95 acre site has been redeveloped with several styles of homes, professional office space, retail stores and restaurants. There will be over 500 residential units with 13 styles of homes, ranging from urban style lofts to single family houses. All the homes are connected by pedestrian friendly paths and are within walking distance of the lakefront commercial center. The commercial center will have over 220,000 square feet of professional office space, and more than 100,000 square feet of retail stores and restaurants.
