Viktors Pupols

Viktors (Viktor Pupols) Pūpols (born 1935) a Latvian–American chess master.
In 1955, he played in Lincoln, Nebraska (US Junior-ch; Charles Kalme won), and beat young Bobby Fischer there.
Viktors Pupols first played in a Washington State Championship tournament in 1954. He has played in most of the tournaments since and was the winner in 1961, 1974, tied for first in 1978, and winning in 1989. He won the tourney in 1964 but Gerald Ronning took title in a match.
In 1975, he tied for 6-11th in Vancouver (Paul Keres won). In 1980, he won in Vancouver (Keres Memorial). He was trice Idaho Open winner in 1984, 1985, and 1986. Just as he first did in 1956 as a teenage wunderkind, Viktors Pupols was again the Eastern Washington Open champion in 2005.
