[edit] Wikicities!

Vik, two weeks ago you turned me on to Wikicities. Well, I applied for a Wiki there and they accepted my idea. Over the past two weeks, I've been creating the structure, the help files, the policies and guidelines, uploading images, and making some articles to prove as templates.

Thanks for introducing me to Wikicities. It sure prevents a lot of headaches for me. Please come visit the site. Look around. And if you feel so inclined, edit. High-level and low-level edits are welcomed! Kingturtle 17:15, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hey no problem. I'll check it out, but I don't know anything about SCUM (what does the U stand for?) so I probably won't edit. Vik Reykja 07:06, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The U stands for Underground. Kingturtle 06:29, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

P.S. Let's go to a Giants game soon. (Kingturtle)

Absolutely! Let's try and time it so we see one they actually win. :-) Vik Reykja 07:06, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I am free for two weeks starting this Sunday. Kingturtle 06:29, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User:Vikreykja/BaseballStub

Hi Vikreykja,

I just ran across your minor leage baseball team template while changing baseball stub (which is on WP:SFD) to baseball-stub in all articles that use it - the former redirects to the latter. Your template uses the non-standard form, and it would be nice if you could add the hyphen to your template. Also, I subst:ituted your template in on the two articles that still used the live template (Greensboro Grasshoppers and Elizabethton Twins), so that I could change the stub template without editing your userspace. If there is a serious reason for using transclusion in this case (I see none, but what do I know), you can revert them back once you change your template, of course. -- grm_wnr Esc 20:25, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Unless it's obvious vandalism or soap boxing, I very rarely revert anything. See WP:SFD/baseball stub for the rest of my opinion on this issue. Vik Reykja 08:02, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] W. Mark Felt

Salve!
I nominated W. Mark Felt as a WP:FAC. As you commented on the Deep Throat talk page, I'd appreciate your comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/W. Mark Felt. PedanticallySpeaking 15:44, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanto

Sorry about that, occasionally my browser cuts things off, especially when they are long lists. I try to watch for this, but sometimes it escapes me. Thanks for fixing it. --—JonMoore 20:24, 29 May 2006 (UTC) 23:29, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

PS: Would you please check the other articles I added the template to to make sure I didn't mess anything else up. It would be most of the links on the template. Thanks. --—JonMoore 20:24, 29 May 2006 (UTC) 23:38, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
It wasn't a problem of truncation, it was the Arab/Oriental/Cyrillic/etc languages getting changed to a bunch of question marks. The other pages didn't get upset. Vik Reykja 23:47, 18 July 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. That is odd. I believe my browser has some issues. I might need to upgrade it. I appreciate the assistance. --—JonMoore 20:24, 29 May 2006 (UTC) 00:07, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Left Behind

Hiya. You've reverted the slacktivist link off the Left Behind page at least eight times now, and it's been de-reverted by a whole variety of people. You seem to have been careful to keep it to 3 reverts in 24 hours, but just barely - four in 25 hours on the 22nd of July. And that rule is really there as an indicator that you've gone way over the line, not as a legalistic thing where you're A-OK as long as you don't break the letter of the law. So maybe you could leave it to someone else to decide to revert that link off for a while, because it sure looks to me like you're basically the only one interested in doing so right now. (As I was composing this I note you reverted my last change but left in the slacktivist link - a good sign!) Cromis 02:58, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

I'm taking it out from time to time, but leaving it in most of the time because it's on WP:RfC. It is a shame so many anonymous users want it there. It truly is a junk link that does nothing to improve Wikipedia. I don't care how many other articles have junk links too, I don't watch those. I tried to be fair by removing all the op-ed links, but we couldn't have that. We must at all costs boost some blogger's ego, no matter how shitty the content. Sad, really. Vik Reykja 03:07, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Chicago Cubs roster

Hi Vikreykja. The page you made earlier, Chicago Cubs roster, was a duplicate of the already existing roster on Chicago Cubs, so I made the Chicago Cubs roster space a redirect to the main article. Fernando Rizo T/C 06:43, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

I appreciate your swift attention to the Cubs article, but your redirect in this case is in error. I'm in the process of separating all the rosters from the teams' pages. I'm doing this so I can monitor the rosters (and keep them up to date) without having to look at the rest of the team's page; also take a look at MLB rosters. Vik Reykja 06:53, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
I didn't realize you had a massive project going on here. My sincerest apologies, and I shall leave you to your work. ;) Fernando Rizo T/C 06:59, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
Hey, no problem. :-) Vik Reykja 07:10, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] New York Yankees roster

If you don't want a category for it, that's fine with me. I just think that having a category for it will be good and help people find the roster separate from the article. Categorizing the roster under "New York Yankees" shouldn't conflict with the article or category of New York Yankees.

I think that there should be some note of minor leagues on the extended roster section. Not everyone knows baseball, and some people may think that these players are active and playing for the New York Yankees. Or... we could not have the extended roster and only list the actual active players and DL to avoid confusion that way.

When it was just a section and not a "template," the team's roster had a sense of uniqueness (positions, like 2B and SP, included, no extended roster, no {player...} format), and other MLB team articles were not as thorough. People could edit the roster without trying to keep in line with the rosters of other MLB team articles, but I guess with all of the rosters in one place, there should be some degree of uniformity. =/ Win777 15:44, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

 • My problem with the category is it gets put on the MLB rosters page where it doesn't belong. We should find a solution for this.
 • People who don't know baseball probably don't care about the rosters. When I was first drafting the roster page format, I used "Minor leagues" instead of "Extended roster". The reason I decided not to use the minor leagues term, is because in September they all come up and I didn't want to have to go change everything just for the one month.
 • I do think the rosters should be uniform, but they don't have to be as terse as I have made them. I don't like the depth chart that NYY had because it doesn't make sense in some cases. For example, when players play 3B and LF. To solve that annoyance, I decided to keep in line with how players are grouped on mlb.com
 • When I started this, I didn't think there would be much interest. I separated the rosters into their own articles because I couldn't care less about the Yankees, or the Brewers, etc, (I'm a Giants fan) but I do care about their rosters. If you are interested in maintaining this with me, I think we should start a WikiProject where we can discuss formatting and content.

[edit] San Jose Giants

It is against Wikipedia policy to add copyrighted material to articles. It is also extremely rude to re-add the copyrighted text nine minutes after I removed it. Please abstain from doing this. Vik Reykja 02:48, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
It's also rude to delete original work as the second edit was. It was based on common knowledge.Gateman1997 06:25, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Are you saying you are the author of the same content on www.sjgiants.com? Please back that up. Vik Reykja 06:54, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
There is some similar information nothing else. It is common knowledge that the SJ Giants are 18 year affiliates and that those major leaguers are alumni.Gateman1997 06:59, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
The two paragraphs are identical, not just "similar information". Vik Reykja 07:08, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Fine you don't like then. You've removed them and made your point. How about you take a stab at wording the information differently then. Because the info is fair use common knowledge that has no copyright on it. Feel free to add Chad Zerbe and Joe Nathan as well as they are also alums.Gateman1997 07:09, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
So your logic is that just because the info is common knowledge, that gives you the right to plagiarize it? Vik Reykja 15:06, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Would it have made you feel better if I had re-worded it to a poorer sentence struture?Gateman1997 15:26, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Yes. I would prefer it be written in l33t than taken from a copyrighted source without permission. This shouldn't be this difficult to understand. Vik Reykja 16:52, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Fine. How about this, I rewrite it, adding other information that was going to be added before it was labeled and closed, and also reword it so that it doesn't even hint at copyvio. Because the information itself is NOT copyright, just the wording.Gateman1997 18:38, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
That would be wonderful. Vik Reykja 18:55, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Would you like to remove the Copyvio label or shall I?Gateman1997 19:09, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry. I was going to do it earlier this morning, but forgot. I've replaced it now with your writings on the temp page. Vik Reykja 19:13, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
How does that look? Gateman1997 19:19, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Baseball team templates

I hate to break up the indent-fest, but it looks like y'all are about indented-out. I think you are who I wanted to talk to regarding the templates. These templates all have the minor league affiliates of the MLB team. I posted a blurb on MLB Talk about this and was wondering what your opinion is.--CrazyTalk 07:00, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

I'm not sure I fully understand what you're talking about, but I'll take a stab at it over at MLB talk. Thanks for the invitation. Vik Reykja 07:05, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Template continued

I am working on minor league pages again....i got to the south atlantic league and the asheville tourists...i see your template is still being used there.....there is no place in your template to note that the stadium was renovated if it was an old stadium.....personally i have found the template very restrictive. WillC 15:04, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

The template was created as a placeholder because these teams didn't have articles. It was never meant to be the definitive way MiLB pages would be maintained, as expressed in my comment I put on all those pages. Here are instructions to remove the template:
 1. Edit the page
 2. Remove my litte comment at the top
 3. Replace the line {{User:Vikreykja/BaseballStub with {{subst:User:Vikreykja/BaseballStub
 4. Save the page
 5. Edit the page as you would any other.
Thanks again for your continued hard work on the MiLB pages. Vik Reykja 18:38, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
 • thank you my good man. WillC 18:54, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Tri-City Dust Devils

Tri-City Dust Devils contains a link to stuff in userspace. This will break on many Wikipedia mirrors, as they just show the main article space and dump the other stuff. Can I ask you to figure out a solution for this (I imagine putting the template in question into the template namespace is best, as mirrors have no excuse for not keeping that one too). THanks. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 04:21, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] happy new year

[edit] Baseball on Wikicities

Hello Vikreykja, Googie Man here and I want to ask you something as a fellow baseball fan on Wikipedian. Jimbo and Angela have made a new webstie called Wikicities. This link in particular will take you to the baseball Wikicity. As you'll see it's similar to Wikipedia, but my hope is this will allow baseball fans to do more and different things, like reporting on games, in depth statistics, create mulitple pages for pictures, and whatever else baseball fans care to create. You've done great work on Wikipedia and I was hoping you could help get this baseball Wikicity off the ground. Please let me know what you think either at my talk page, or you can email me at terry@wikia.com. Thanks! Googie Man(Talk), 14:01, 5 January 2006

[edit] Babe Ruth

I'm posting this message on you Talk Page either because you've contributed to the article Babe Ruth, or because you've edited other baseball or sports related articles. I've recently completed a revision of this article at Babe Ruth/rewrite. If you have the time, I'd appreciated it if you'd compare the articles and leave any feedback you might have on the rewrite discussion page. I'd like to reach a consensus before makeing major changes to the main article. Thanks for your help. --djrobgordon 20:35, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sports Wiki

I noticed you were active many baseball pages on Wikipedia. My friends and are I starting a sports wiki that you may be interested in. It uses Wikipedia's software but we made a lot of technological improvements to allow for more news and opinion articles, as well as regular encyclopedic entries. Further, we have a statistics database that has statsitics for every baseball player since 1871. If you're interested, contact me and I'll give you the URL.

[edit] Project Fakebook

I saw on the fake book article that you were interested in creating fake books on WikiBooks. I had an idea for a WikiProject that I've described on my talk page. Within song articles it would list the chord progressions that make up the song. Let me know what you think about that.

[edit] Minor league baseball template

I was doing some stub-sorting, and noticed your template for easily creating Minor League Baseball team stubs. I don't want to completely undo all of the work with the template, nor do I want to edit your template, so is it possible that you can change it to tag all of the articles with baseball-team-stub instead of baseball-stub? We just added the new category, and I think you'll agree that it's a much more appropriate place to put the stubs.

Thanks in advance!

[edit] New baseball article improvement drive

Baseball Greetings fellow WikiProject Baseball member! Just a quick note: there is now an article improvement drive just for baseball-related articles at WP:BBAID. Please take a look and vote on an article or add one of your own. Once an article has been agreed upon, feel free to stop by and lend a hand in getting it to featured article status. [edit] List of News Clients

[edit] List of news clients

I have added a "prod" template to the article List of news clients, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria.
