Vijaya Corea

Vijaya Corea is one of Sri Lanka's well known media personalities who recently celebrated 40 years in the media. Vijaya Corea launched his career as a relief announcer with Radio Ceylon in the 1960s. His voice was heard for the first time on the popular children's program 'Kiddies Corner'. The American presenter Craig Thompson was unwell so Vijaya Corea was requested to step into the breach despite not having any broadcasting experience at all.

He proved to be a natural and went on to become one of Sri Lanka's leading broadcasters. He is a household name in Sri Lanka and has compered hundreds of shows and events in and around the island. Vijaya Corea climbed the management ladder and in the 1990s he was appointed Director-General of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.
