Vigra

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vigra is an island at the west coast of Norway. It is in Giske municipality in the county of Møre and Romsdal. At Vigra there are excellent trails to go walking along the seashore, and over the hills of Vigra. The beach "Blimsanden" is one of the most beautiful beaches in the district of "Sunnmøre". There are also small beaches in Rørvikvågen, Blindheimsvika, Roald and Molnes. A nice way to relax is to go fishing from the harbour. Another possibility is to go fishing from the piers or directly from the rocky headlands. One of the traditional ways to have fun for children, is to go crab fishing. With a short stick and a fishinghook with baits, it is great fun to look for small crabs among the rocks on the seashore. Nearby the Vigra School, there is a magnificent beach with good wind conditions, where you can go wind surfing/kiting. You can also do so at Gjøsundneset and Blindheimsvika. Other activities one can attend to is diving, golfing, boating, horseback riding and sailing.

Ålesund Airport is located at Vigra, and the island is connected to the mainland through underwater tunnels.

At Vigra, there is also a powerful mediumwave broadcasting transmitter.
