ViewGL

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ViewGL is a downloadable program developed by Aerials Express that provides updated aerial photography content through Google Earth. The development of ViewGL reflects a core issue confronting Google Earth's mission to accurately represent the planet Earth: data management. As of now, Google Earth is a patch-work of satellite and airborne imagery from various sources. Maintaining the accuracy and currency of this data for the United States, let alone the entire planet, is a daunting task. This is reflected significant portions of the photography being outdated, having a tiled appearance, containing clouds and being poorly projected. [1] [2] Inversely, ViewGL has the specialized purpose of developing and supplying aerial imagery of US metropolitan areas resulting in higher accuracy.
