Viereckschanze

Viereckschanzen (German for "four-sided earthworks") are remains of celtic enclosures found in Britain, France, southern Germany and into Bohemia

In the past it was assumed that they served for religious activities, but nowadays it is discussed that a secular function like farm or dwelling is possible too.

Viereckschanzen are generally much smaller than an Oppida
