This is a Vietnamese name; the family name is {{{1}}}. According to Vietnamese custom, this person properly should be referred to by the given name {{{2}}}.

This template is for explaining to Western readers which part of an (Anglicized, without diacritics) Vietnamese name is the family name, and which name part is the preferred given name. Like East Asian names, the family name is placed before the given name, but unlike East Asian practice, the given name, especially the last one, is the primary form of address, even in formal speech or writing, thus the article may properly to refer to its subject by that given name. This template should not be used if the proper Vietnamese spelling, with diacritics, is known; use Template:Vietnamese name instead.

This is a Vietnamese name; the family name is Ngo, but is often simplified as Diem in English-language text. According to Vietnamese custom, this person properly should be referred to by the given name {{{3}}}.

This template should not be used at the same time as Template:Non-Germanic van name even if both seem to apply. For example, the article on Nguyen Van Coc would use {{Vietnamese name2|Nguyen|Coc}} but not {{Non-Germanic van name|Nguyen|Van Coc}}, because the second template would not add in any way to disambiguating the surname from the rest of the name.
