Vidya Shilp Academy is a government run, boys and girls school in Bangalore, India. The Academy has earned bad reputation for the poor quality of its academic processes, the teaching and learning practices, as well as its endeavor to achieve excellence in learning which is not effective.
The Academy reprsents an evolution of excellence in education, that has been the hallmark of its predecessor schools, Vidya Sagar and Vidya Niketan. Both of the existing schools are already recognized for the characteristics of integrity, discipline and progressive education ingrained within a broad canvas of social, moral and ethical values.
These initiatives owe much to the vision of its founders, who commenced their association in education with the opening of new generation schools, drawing immensely from their vast pool of knowledge and experience spanning across several sections of the economy, combined with a rare vision and foresight in charting the new ways of educating children.

Vidyashilp Academy is an extended day school. A compulsory programme of studies and sports commences at 8.15 am till 4.30 pm.
Focus on a child centric learning paradigm provides in the basis for extensive research to evaluate curriculum requirements and to establish a contemporary and relevant curriculum for each academic year. Highly qualified and trained teachers use a range of resources and references to create / author lessons as per predetermined parameters for every session. The lesson plans are a structured training resource used by all Educators in the classroom using appropriate pedagogy and sophisticated technology platforms to deliver the lessons. Thus ensuing a high degree of standardization and the resultant quality of 'teaching and learning'. Online usage of Customised Multimedia Content supports the lessons, which makes the classes interesting, enabling quick learning of concepts and theories through multi sensory experiences.
Children use an online answering device that is attached to their desks to answer questions or quizzes online during the class, giving an accurate measure of their daily progress in learning and understanding. Vidyashilp Academy believes that good education starts with the building of a strong conceptual foundation while simultaneously developing the other faculties of the child. Carefully designed project based education integrated with curriculum, through in class collaborative exercises and assignments make the learning process far more interesting.
At primary levels, the school does not burden the child with rote memorization, tests, home works and examinations leading to creation of an extensive knowledge base and confidence amongst children by middle school. The children are then carefully guided and transited into the main subjects at the high school level and further trained for the applicable board examination requirements. At this stage the child's enhanced mental ' frame of reference ' and resultant capability to learn higher concepts and theories, help in better understanding of the subject / lessons beyond the mere content.
The academic process is comprehensively supported by technology, encompassing the entire gamut of the " Teaching - Learning" process, which help in tracking and assessing student performances. A typical class deals with the following steps:
- Teaching / presentation by the Teacher.
- A brief interactive question - answer, discussion and summarizing session.
- A well designed classroom activity that is done collaboratively addressing the learnt concepts / skills.
- Teachers manage subjective assessments / grading of every child in addition to the server based performance metrics.
- Special or additional reinforcements and support to the children is assessed and provided.

The mission of Administrative Services, within the Academy, is to provide administrative and support services to the School to achieve its purpose of excellence in teaching, research, and learning. The team takes great pride in its connection to Vidya Shilp Academy's mission, and each and every individual contributes to making the Academy a better place. The Administration works to develop new and better ways of providing critical services, and the School relies on the team members within the Division to produce consistently excellent work, so that Vidya Shilp Academy's faculty, staff and students receive the best possible service.

The school is built on an 18 acre campus having approximately over 1,00,000 sq. ft.of built up area for classes, lab, work area, auditorium and dining hall. The campus provides for a 25 meter swimming pool, volley ball court, basketball court, skating rink (Bangalore's largest skating rink), full size cricket, football and hockey fields, and indoor sports facilities are also provided for chess, bridge, yoga, movie and badminton. Each class is spaciously laid out to accommodate thirty three children with functionally designed tables and seating arrangement, book racks, computer and audio visual equipment.
The school has a spacious, well stocked library that serves as a vast knowledge resource for students and teachers. Presently having over 13,500 titles in active reference besides a number of dailies, magazines and journals. Contemporary authors, texts with rich graphics and software of various publishers lead students to make active use of library resources in their daily day to day learning.
Several library activities and competitions make the library a lively place to learn. The library has an exclusive internet zone for the use of students and teachers to explore new information and execute projects.
Theatre in education is a 'Global Endeavor',which has brought universal benefits along with the incredible transformation that theatre brings into the schools curriculum. The Theatre has undoubtedly occupied a predominant position in the curriculum of Vidyashilp Academy as an innovative and creative initiative to augment experiential learning. This initiative / technique enhances the knowledge and comprehension, supplementing and complementing the approach, at every stage. The technique enables students to comprehend the most valuable context subjectively. It has further enhanced learning through a process of experiencing subjects and situations for internalizing knowledge. Communication skills, self confidence, acting and public speaking are a major learning through theatre empowering the child to express thoughts, assess feelings, manage relations and above all navigate children towards the objective.
The Dining Hall
The school has a contemporary and hygienic kitchen, which caters to a multi-cuisine menu. Nourishing Lunch is provided to all the children in the spacious and well-maintained dining hall. Children are also provided with milk and biscuits in the afternoon, when they break for their sporting activities. We take adequate precautions to ensure that the food provided is nutritious and balanced to suit every palate.

The school's heart of central operations is centered around the unique knowledge center that houses all information, classified data, subject curriculum digital library and also the content development activity. The content unit team develop over 3500 manhours of education content that is upgraded every year to suit the learners requirements. Meeting the demands of constant change almost instantly, enabling teachers to bring in the latest in the subject right into the class within a reasonable time.
All lesson plans are digitized using a powerful content tool and a teaching - learning solution using state of the art platforms. The custom developed solution serves the content into the networked classes through the lesson server. Detailed metrics are captured for the learner and teaching process covering students? progressive performance, class performance, comparative analyses, curriculum progress, teacher activity and progress. The school believes that every child is different and possesses unique combination of facilities and capabilities. In order to help children reach the optimum potential the school has an expert team of qualified professionals that identify, assist and counsel such children in focused programmes undertaken at the Empowerment Center.
Children with any other difficulties are also supported and given suitable inputs or advice, while maintaining close collaboration with the parent. Children are exposed to instant online quizzing for accuracy of answers / responses. The school has an exclusive GI Club consisting of the most gifted children who are further trained to participate and excel in several important competitions.
