Vidofnir

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vidofnir is the name of the falcon (sometimes portrayed as a rooster) that sits at the top of the World Tree Yggdrasil in Norse mythology. It quarrels constantly with Nidhogg, but since it never leaves its perch, the squirrel Ratatosk conveys insults and snappy comebacks between the two. Vidofnir is mentioned only rarely in Nordic tales. It doesn't play a prominent role in many stories, nor does it (or Ratatosk or Nidhogg, for that matter), seem to have any participation in Ragnarok.
