VidaSafe
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
VidaSafe is a brand name for a suite of data protection features standard on all high-end VidaBox systems. VidaSafe consists of:
- A RAID solution (a redundant array of inexpensive disks, also later known as redundant array of independent disks) for system data protection.
- Logical operating system (OS) & data storage drive isolation
- Automated & self-initializing hard drive and performance optimization utilities

[edit] RAID
The RAID solution on VidaSafe is usually based on a software RAID 5 implementation, and was chosen for its low cost of redundancy. In short, even when one of the many hard drives in the system has failed, the system will keep on running in a degraded mode, but with no loss of data. This allows time for the user to assess the situation and take the appropriate steps to prevent any potential data loss.
More technical information about VidaSafe or RAID 5 can be found here.
[edit] Logical Segregation of OS & Data Storage Drives
VidaSafe-protected systems isolate and segregate the operating system (OS) and data storage (media) drives logically. In the event of a successful virus, malware, or spyware attack that wipes-out and destroys the entire operating system, the OS drive can simply be formatted and reimaged, without affecting the media drive in any way.
In additional, this also allows another benefit of easy upgrading from MCE2005 to Vista once it becomes available. Some have also added their own Linux operating systems on the VidaBox system instead of staying with MCE2005.
[edit] Automated Optimization utilities
All VidaBox systems are loaded & tweak with a pre-configured suite of hard drive maintenance and optimization utilities that defragment automatically every night without any user interaction or input. Everything is done automatically, so the user does not need to be technically savvy to keep a system optimized.
The combination of the above three features and technologies is what makes up VidaSafe Data Protection Technology.
