Template talk:Video

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Template:Video links to a video file. It is meant to be used for video files set off from the text. To apply it in an article use the following:

{{Video|filename=Name of file on commons.ogg|title=Title of this file|description=The description of this file}}

For instance:

{{Video|filename=A11v 1094228.ogg|title=Buzz Aldrin steps onto the Moon|description=Television clip of Buzz descending the ladder and stepping onto the moon. On arriving at the footpad, he tries to jump up to the ladder again and fails, but succeeds on his second attempt. After remarking to Neil on the beautiful view (“Magnificent desolation”) he jumps from the footpad onto the surface.}}

is rendered like this:

  • Video:Buzz Aldrin steps onto the Moon (file info) — Watch in browser
    • Television clip of Buzz descending the ladder and stepping onto the moon. On arriving at the footpad, he tries to jump up to the ladder again and fails, but succeeds on his second attempt. After remarking to Neil on the beautiful view (“Magnificent desolation”) he jumps from the footpad onto the surface. In case of problems, see media help.

[edit] Floating version

I've noticed that usage of this template looks a bit awkward when trying to introduce a video file amidst text, so I've created a floating version, template:video float. ~ Booya Bazooka 06:02, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
