Victoria Point, Queensland

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Victoria Point is one of the 21 bayside suburbs of the Redland Shire, approximately 20 kilometres South-East of Brisbane, and is primarily a residential area, but also contains shopping centres and a ferry service to Coochiemudlo island.

As at June 2003, Victoria Point was estimated to be home to 13,249 people, with most of these of working age.[1]

The main point area has two boat ramps, and a Volunteer Marine Rescue unit is also based at the point.

Beach areas include Thompson's Beach, a small child safe beach (but sometimes suffers from blue-green algae), which has a very shallow slope, allowing a long tide.

Shopping facilities have expanded rapidly in the last few years, and now with four Supermarkets,a Public Library and many speciality shops, is a thriving shopping centre of its own. A Cinema Complex is also in the planning stages, as of 2006.

Victoria Point has one private secondary school. Faith Lutheran College was established as a Primary School in 1982. In 2003, the college was expanded with the commencement of the new Middle (Years 7-9) and Senior (Years 10-12) School Campus in Thornlands which is still under development.

In 2007 there is a growing population of older couples looking to retire with around five retirement villages.
