Victoria English Primary School (Taikoo Shing) (Chinese: 維多利亞英文小學 (太古城)), also known as Victoria English Primary School and Kindergarten (Taikoo Shing) (Chinese: 維多利亞英文小學暨幼稚園 (太古城)) from 1998 to 2002 during the existence of its associated kindergarten, was a private primary school in Taikoo Shing, Hong Kong which ran from 1996 to 2005. It was a school under the Victoria Educational Organisation. Its chief principal was Miss Maggie Koong (1996-2005), and had two principals, Miss Pauline Chow (2000-2002) and Mr YC Yung (2002-2005), and a deputy principal Miss Diane Elizabeth Fisk (2002-2005). [edit] History
[edit] 1996-1998
In the first two years of the school's 9-year lifespan, it was located at one floor of Delia Memorial College, and also shared the entrance with it. It shared its playground with Delia Memorial College and Delia School of Canada.
[edit] 1998-2005
Starting from the academic year 1998-1999, the school was relocated to a building between Delia Memorial College and Delia School of Canada. It continued to share its playground (and later tuck shop in 1999) with the other two schools. Its entrance was shared with its associated kindergarten, which opened in 1998 and also in the same building. The kindergarten stopped running in 2002, changing into Delia Kindergarten, and afterwards people had to go through the entrance of Delia School of Canada in order to enter the campus.
In July 2005, Victoria English Primary School (Taikoo Shing) closed and moved to a new primary-secondary school, Victoria Shanghai Academy, in Wan Chai.
[edit] Campus and Classes
Both of the school's two locations only occupied one floor and were extraordinarily small.
The following are the number of grades existing in the school throughout the years:
- 1996-1998 - Primary 1 to Primary 3
- 1998-1999 - Primary 1 to Primary 4
- 1999-2000 - Primary 1 to Primary 3
- 2000-2001 - Primary 1 to Primary 4
- 2001-2002 - Primary 1 to Primary 5
- 2002-2005 - Primary 1 to Primary 6
The school lost many students in 1999 due to the completion of a new campus – Victoria English Primary School (Causeway Bay) at East Hospital Road, Causeway Bay. On average, the school had only less than 200 students every year.
[edit] Characteristics and policies
The school was an EMI (English as the medium of instruction) school, and employed a lot of English native speakers as teachers, which were almost entirely Canadians. It also had an "English Day" scheme which encouraged students to speak English throughout the day. In 2003, the school commenced the implementation of the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organisation, widely known as the "IB Programme".
