[edit] Politics

Magsaysay is a veteran politician that came from the same political family of former President Ramon Magsaysay.[citation needed] He first served as the Governor of Zambales in 1968-1986. He relinquished the post after the EDSA Revolution of 1986.

He made his first attempt to return to the Philippine political scene, when he ran for senator in 1987 under the Grand Alliance for Democracy. In 1992 he accepted the invitation of former First Lady Imelda Marcos as her vice presidential candidate under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (where he ironically has ties to this day as an associate member) in the 1992 presidential elections. He eventually ended up second to the last, garnering 3.4 percent of the total vote.

He successfully staged a political comeback in the 1998 elections when he again ran for the Governorship of Zambales. He won the said election and was subsequently re-elected in 2001 and 2004.[citation needed]

[edit] Senate bid

To the surprise of everyone, he accepted the nomination of Lakas CMD to run in the May 14, 2007 midterm elections under the Team Unity umbrella. His name wasn't mentioned in any previous surveys before being selected in February 10, 2007.

[edit] Personal life

GoVic or VicMag, as he is called, is married to Rosellyn Enciso. Incumbent Zambales first district Rep. Milagros "Mitos" Magsaysay is his daughter-in-law. Other known relatives include graduating Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr., incumbent party-list Rep. Eulogio "Amang" Magsaysay, and TV personality JB Magsaysay.[citation needed]
