Vice Lords

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Almighty Vice Lord Nation (abbreviated AVLN or VLN or ASVLN) is the oldest and the second-largest street gang in Chicago. They are believed to have been originally formed sometime in 1958, as a youth gang in the Illinois State Training School for Boys in St. Charles, also known as the St. Charles Juvenile Correctional Facility. Many of the youths came from the 16th Street Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago. They eventually organized into an organization called the Conservative Vice Lords, and are still largely based on Chicago's West Side. Though the gang's official colors are black and red, members wear all colors. The Vice Lord Nation have always controlled the vast majority of Chicago's West Side, and are part of a larger, Chicago-based gang coalition known as the Peoples. They have an strong alliance with the People Nation.

Their main rivals are the Gangster Disciples.

  • Scimitar or "Arabian" sword - per Islam.
  • Pitchforks pointing down as symbol for disrespect (to the Gangster Disciples),and Black Disciples, but all Disciple Nations in general such as Maniac Latin Disciples,Spanish Gangster Disciples, Insane Gangster Satan Disciples and Young Latino Organization Disciples
  • Broken Heart with wings with pitchforks if it is pointing down or broken in half it is mainly a symbol for disrepect towards (to the Gangster Disciples, and all the Disciple Nations who use that also)

Like the Black P. Stones, the Vice Lords also utilize psuedo-Islamic ideology and symbolism in their gang motif; the star and crescent moon being the most visible examples.

[edit] Various gang factions

Some of the numerous factions of Vice Lords are:

The various factions of Vice Lords street gangs are generally not allies across the board. Some factions are vicious rivals of other factions, showing a degree of in-fighting among gangs bound to the same alliance (as is the case with Gangster Disciples and Black Disciples from the rival Folks coalition). However, in the Illinois Prison system, Vice Lord factions (for the most part) usually come together as a unified Vice Lord 'nation'.

Each faction of the Vice Lords has their own 'Chief' and ranking officers. However, high-ranking members that hold the title of 'Universal Elite' are to be given respect by all Vice Lord factions.
