Vibrava (ビブラーバ Biburāba?) is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise. Vibrava is one of few Pokémon that live in the desert regions of Hoenn. It is #329 in the National Pokédex.
Its name is most likely derived from a portmanteau of "vibrate" (describing the movement of Vibrava's wings) and "larva".

[edit] Biological characteristics
Vibrava resemble matured antlions, often mistakenly identified as dragonflies. This confusion is not unjustified, as Vibrava can evolve into a dragon Pokémon, Flygon. However, Vibrava are more closely based on the Cicada in both appearance and the ability to "sing loudly".
Vibrava vibrates their wings incredibly fast, generating ultrasonic waves. These waves are potent enough to cause prey to faint. They will then devour their prey after spraying their hides with acid to decompose the body for easier digestion. The ultrasonic waves they create can also cause headaches in humans.
As their wings are not fully developed, they instead use them for the purpose of stunning foes and prey. They can still fly short distances, however.
[edit] In the video games
Vibrava first appeared in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, and later made an appearance as one of the Shadow Pokémon in Pokémon Colosseum.
Statistically, Vibrava is not well-suited for battle. It is wise for players to evolve Vibrava into Flygon for the purposes of battling. Vibrava evolve into Flygon at Level 45.
As a Ground- and Dragon-type Pokémon, Vibrava is strong against Electric-, Fire-, Rock-, Poison-types, and other Dragon-types and weak against Ice-types and dragon type attacks. Vibrava and its evolved form Flygon are the first Pokémon of the Dragon and Ground dual-types.
[edit] In the anime
Vibrava appears together with Trapinch in Episode 383, Trapinch and Vibrava! Lake of Illusion! (English: Beg, Burrow and Steal). In this episode, Ash and his friends are exploring Izabe Island when they find a group of people who are conducting a research on wild Trapinch. Ash and his friends agree to help, but in the process they fall into an underground labyrinth excavated by the Trapinch. With the help of their Pokémon, they eventually find a way out of the maze, and find a lake where Trapinch evolve into Vibrava before flying away.
Later, during her second contest in Kanto, May's Combusken defeated a Vibrava to win the contest.
[edit] In other media
Vibrava has made three appearances in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, all in the EX Dragon set. Each card is a Stage-1 Colorless type. Vibrava, like other Pokémon cards with Dragon-type traits, uses multiple energy types to fuel its attacks. In this case, it requires Grass and Lightning energy cards.
