Viðrar vel til loftárása

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Viðrar vel til loftárása (IPA ['vɪðrar vɛl tʰɪl 'lɔftʰaʊraʊsa]) is a song from Sigur Rós's second full-length album Ágætis byrjun. It was also released as the B-side of the single Svefn-G-Englar.

[edit] Origin

"Viðrar vel til loftárása" is Icelandic for "good weather for airstrikes". During the war in Kosovo, an Icelandic weatherman said, "í dag viðrar vel til loftárása," meaning "today, it is good weather for airstrikes". The band named the song after this.

[edit] Video

The video for the song is noted for being cinematic and controversial. Set in 1950s Iceland, it features a kiss between two young boys that is broken up by one of the boys' father and a local priest during a football (soccer) match.

The video is available for download on the band's site.
