A vesting period is a period of time an investor or other person involved in financial matters must wait until they are capable of officially exercising a financial or investment option. Typically the entire grant does not vest at one time. Specific percentages of the grant vest at designated periods of time over the life of the grant - could apply to restricted or deferred stocks also.
