The Verne is one of HM Prisons in Tophill on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, England. It occupies a former Army Citadel, built by convicts in the 19th Century to protect Portland Port and Portland Harbour. It is particularly used for prisoners who are foreign nationals. Also, see Verne Citadel.
