Vern

"Vern" (on rare occasions called Vernon) was an unseen character in the Ernest P. Worrell commercials, sketches and movies starring Jim Varney. Ernest always spoke to Vern by addressing the camera, thus allowing the viewer to "see through Vern's eyes". Vern never spoke to Ernest, but his nonverbal reactions were often shown.
Although always incorporated into the "Ernest" franchise (though sometimes in minuscule amounts), "Vern" was very generally annoyed by Ernest, and made no qualms about attempting to shut Ernest out of his life (e.g., by shutting windows on Ernest's fingers, etc.).
