Vera Bradley Designs, Inc. is an American producer of soft, brightly patterned bags.
These bags are commonly found in small shops, rather than large department stores. Many consumers choose a certain pattern, whether it be Bermuda Blue or Piccadilly Plum, and purchase many matching bags in different sizes, creating a collection.
The company was founded in 1982 by Patricia Miller and Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, and named after Baekgaard's mother.
Vera Bradley's corporate headquarters are currently based in Fort Wayne, Indiana..

Vera Bradley has earned a reputation as a leader in the gift industry. Creating stylish quilted cotton luggage, handbags and accessories, the company combines smart product designs with distinctive and colorful fabrics and trims.
The Vera Bradley story is a testimony to the American Dream: While on vacation in March of 1982, Patricia and Barbara were awaiting a flight in Atlanta when they noticed a definite lack of feminine-looking luggage. The longtime friends wasted no time in correcting this situation. Within weeks, these dynamic women had created a company, named after Barbara’s mother, capable of marketing and manufacturing their cleverly designed products. The demand for these unique handbags and luggage items has grown and so has Vera Bradley, which is now nationally and internationally recognized.
Vera Bradley bags come in many sizes and styles, as well as many different patterns and colors. There are travel duffels, medium sized totes, large totes, purses, wallets, watches, belts, glasses cases, and cosmetic cases. There are also umbrellas, napkins, and placemats. Names include the Village[1], the Sherry[2], and the Amy [3]. The most expensive bag is the Baby Bag[4] and the cheapest can be the Katie[5].
After a pattern is on the market for a while, the company retires it. When patterns retire, new ones are produced. New patterns are released in spring and fall colors; they are typically introduced in January and July. The company will also retire or redesign specific styles and new styles may be introduced in concurrence with the new patterns. Vera Bradley just came out with a color that supports Breast Cancer.
Recently, Vera Bradley expanded its product line to include rolling luggage, tableware, bedding, furniture, fine rugs, accessory coverings, and stationery.
