[edit] Welcome

Hello, Veritasophia, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Newcomers help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --Ardenn 21:52, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

For the love of God! Do not use <br> in articles. Ardenn 21:48, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry. How else do you make spaces between paragraphs? Unless you mean that you just do not like how it looks. I think it looks better (easier to read) to have the paragraphs further apart, but who gets to decide about that? I am seriously not trying to be a problem. I just thought it looked better to have spaces. Veritasophia 21:53, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

The large spaces break the formatting, and goes against convention on Wikipedia. To make a space, hit enter on your keyboard. Ardenn 21:58, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Ok, if it's convention, then I will stick to the small spaces. I didn't know it was not okay. Sorry again. Veritasophia 22:00, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

No problem, I'm sorry if you feel I was too strong. Ardenn 22:04, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. Ardenn 22:18, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

I don't get it? Who is attacking who?

This is like the second time I've ever used a talk page, so I'm sorry if I don't know the protocol. Who ends up deciding if a page gets deleted? And about it being non-important, isn't that kind of a main point about Wikipedia, that people can write about things they are interested in? Besides that, though, it is almost guranteed that you wouldn't have thought about looking up the Hosty page if it hadn't been on my contributions list. Anyone can see your motivation. I am not trying to "attack" you, please believe me! It totally seems the other way around, you looking up what I wrote about and posting it for deletion? That's kind of mean. And I know there is no way to prove it, but the other people who commented on that, Fan and Ginko something, that would be completely random what 2 other people would suddenly, within minutes of our talking about this, and hours of the article being written, decide to look up canadian socialites. Honestly? I think you are those other people. That's not an attack but a reasoned estimation of the situatio. There is no other logical explanation for it. I hope you understand what I am saying.

You can keep me accountable for reporting negative information about the other schools, I would like that, because I am really just trying to have accurate information out there about the universities because education is important to me. But the socialite thing? If you don't think it is notable, someone else does, so why bother saying its not important to you? Please please don't use wikipedia protocol or whatever to get away from the real issue, which I think has something to do with universities. Please can we discuss that?

[edit] Response to helpme

Hi, I'm struggling to find out what's going on here - would you mind dropping me a line on my talk page with the story of what's going on, so I can look into it (and try and get an admin's attention if needed). Cheers -- cds(talk) 23:08, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Just a note that I've replied on my talk page, and I'm hoping things get sorted quickly. If Cowman109 can advise on the other non-AfD concerns mentioned on my talk page, that would be handy. -- cds(talk) 23:49, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
About your concerns a user is following your edits and removing them, if you could link us to the articles/edits in question, we'll look into it. -- cds(talk) 00:37, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Another response to help

Hello there! I am Cowman109Talk from the Mediation Cabal, and while the Mediation Cabal isn't exactly the sort of place to request for this sort of help, I'm willing to help you out here. From what I understand, the problems you are having are revolving around Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lauren Hosty. The first thing I will say is that you should not take the request for deletion personally. It is common procedure to vote on deleting articles concerning people whose notability may not be verifiable. See Wikipedia:Notability for more information on this area.

Concerning your belief of sockpuppetry being used against you, I believe you are just misinterpreting other votes to delete that article. I am quite positive those are all separate editors who regularlly look into which articles are up for deletion and add their comments to each article individually. Don't take the request for deletion as a personal attack, but instead look at it as an information about procedure. Does this help clear up the situation at all? Oh, yes, and if you type ~~~~ after your comments, it automatically signs your comments with your username. It is generally courteous to do so so people know who they're speaking to, hehe. :) Cowman109Talk 23:21, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Verifiability

When you write an article, please include the sources, just as if you were writing a university essay. That way, nobody can complain that the information is unverifiable. In the same way, try to make it obvious to a reader why the subject is notable. If the notability is obvious, complaints of non-notability will be far less likely. [edit] Lauren Hosty article

I've looked through the issue you sent to the Mediation Cabal, and would like to help.

However, looking at the article, I agree it doesn't fit for Wikipedia in its current state. Take a look at the Category:American_socialites - (nearly) all persons mentioned have some special history. Some have been actors or so, some have external links, and so on. Try to describe what's there that makes Lauren Hosty notable, if she is. You've mentioned theatre, films and modelling - find out what productions she was involved with. Being myself an inclusionist, I still think an article needs more info to fit. I guess there is somethink that made you write about her, so just explain it in the article. Even if related films aren't well-known, adding a list of them will help to keep the article.

CP/M 02:26, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Currently, as the article has been deleted, it's best to recreate it in the own userspace, named User:Veritasophia/Lauren Hosty. Do you have the article text saved somewhere? If not, ask the closing administrator (his talk page) to access the page (deleted pages are not actually wiped out and can be accessed by admins) and userfy it (copy to userspace). When it's in the userspace, just edit it, add some references, ask others whether it fits this way, and recreate in the mainspace when it's ready. The issue was just with the article giving not enough verifiable reasons for notability. However, with verifiability policy, it needs some source of reference, and it seems that there are no references in internet, at least by google search. Offline sources do fine, they just need to be named. CP/M 04:44, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: response to helpme

I think a lot of people have already given good advice here, and I don't want to repeat it. All I want to add is that you shouldn't give up hope - we're not all bad people.. we don't want to argue, jsut build an encyclopedia. You can also work on any articles or new articles on your sandbox, and invite others to look at it and give feedback. Feel free to contact me at any time on my talk page if you need any further help. -- 9cds(talk) 15:10, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
