Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Veovis was an influential D'ni noble, from an important D'ni noble family. His father, Rakeri, was one of the Five, the lords who ruled D'ni after the Age of Kings. Several years before the downfall of the D'ni empire, he once again came into contact with Aitrus, an old childhood acquaintance. Aitrus and Veovis became friends, a friendship which survived the mission, and which was strengthened when Aitrus saved Veovis' life.

Both Aitrus and Veovis were selected as councilmen of D'ni, and while they often had opposing views their friendship often guided them into finding a solution which had enough consensus. This friendship was ruined, however, when Aitrus planned to marry Anna/Ti'ana, a young human woman from the surface. Veovis used his veto against their marriage, but later retracted his vote when Aitrus reminded him of a vow he had made when Aitrus rescued him years before, to grant him any wish.

Following the marriage of Aitrus and Ti'ana, Veovis became their enemy, and attempted to undo all Aitrus' deeds by legal means. His hatred for the outsider Ti'ana and his feeling of betrayal by his old friend guided him into the influence of the fallen D'ni philosopher A'Gaeris, and by clever lies A'Gaeris managed to make Veovis believe Aitrus had become a traitor. A'Gaeris eventually played Veovis and Aitrus against each other, and it was Aitrus' testimony that got Veovis imprisoned, falsely, for murder.

With A'Gaeris' help Veovis escaped, and together they began plotting revenge. A series of terrorist attacks on D'ni followed, ending in a genocidal biological gas attack followed by earth quakes which wiped out the D'ni except for some few survivors. Veovis refused, however, to Write an Age for A'Gaeris where they both could be gods - considered the ultimate heresy in D'ni society - and A'Gaeris murdered him.
