Veno Pilon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Veno Pilon (September 22, 1896 - September 23, 1970) was a Slovene expressionist painter, graphic artist and photographer.

Pilon was born in Ajdovščina, Slovenia (at that time Ajdovščina was still a part of Austria-Hungary). After graduating from secondary school in Gorizia, he joined the Austrian army during World War I. He was taken to Russia as a prisoner of war, an experience which he describes in his book Na robu ("On the Edge"). He returned to Ajdovščina in 1919, where he took up painting.

Some of his paintings are available on the Pilon Gallery website.

In the late 1920s Pilon moved to Paris where he explored photography. Some of those photos can be seen here: [1]

He died in Ajdovščina.
