Is Venix really based on System III? Running the Venix 2 emulator, it's missing System III commands like cpio, dirname, rsh (the restricted shell). It doesn't have named pipes or the uname system call, both of which were introduced in System III. To me, it looks like a pure version 7 system with a few bsd extensions (csh, ex, vi, rmail).
