Talk:Venice, Florida

[edit] Opinions
If you are considering moving to Venice, please be advised that you read the above statistics carefully. The area is heavily dominated by retirees (median age is 69 yrs) and 57+% are over 65 yrs of age. The annual influx of "snowbirds" doubles the population of the city, and clogs streets, restaurants, shops and beaches. Only 7% of households have children, and the population is very heavily elderly. Also be advised that living wages are very low, and housing prices very high ($250,000+). Also be advised that infrastructure (roads, schools, civic services) are lagging far behind a burgeoning construction and housing development scheme, and the quality of life here as perceived by most natives and long-term residents is diminishing rapidly. As a retiree, you may find it paradise if you are well-off financially; if you are a young family, you will find it a very daunting existence. Service jobs (minimum wage) are very plentiful, but professional wages are basically non-existant. (for example, nurses may expect $16.50/hr versus what they are currently earning... Wages for trades jobs are probably 1/2 what you are used to...) Please do research and visit the area between December and April, before you decide to move here, to see if this is the area of Florida that you choose... There are many other areas of Florida (the Panhandle, the Central Florida area, the "Nature Coast") that are more desirable, and where you can afford, and earn a decent living... 71.101.141.189 (talk • contribs)
- There is nothing wrong with this city, i am 19 and love it. It is a small town that takes pride in its history. It is a Very desirable place for families because Venice has small communities and lots of subdivisional housing. It has just taken our system a little bit of time to get the ball rolling. Venice is right on the water and has great location. We live in-between Sarasota nad Port Charlotte. Two great cities containing malls. But Venice has things to offer too. We have a Highly acclaimed community theatre (Venice Little Theatre), the jetties, and plenty of resturants and shopping. The schools are great too. Yes, the "snowbirds" can complicate things, but if you lived in a large city there would be traffic conjestion too. I am just offened that someone said that there are more desirable places to live, like the panhandle, why so you can get hit by almost EVERY hurrican that somes through?? i don't know about that. Anywhere you go that is near the beach or waterfront is going to be pricy, you want cheap, go to the boonies for the house or living arrangement. You have to pay for Paradise. It doesn't come free and Venice is not as bad as some other cities on the Gulf coast, especially the East coast. 68.56.192.182 02:50, 19 September 2006 (UTC)An upset Resident
