Velvet Gloves And Spit is the name of Neil Diamond's third album. It was his first for MCA's UNI label, and included three low-charting singles: Brooklyn Roads (#58), Two-Bit Manchild (#66) and Sunday Sun (#68). Upon it's initial release in 1968, it only had ten songs. After the rousing success of the next three albums, it was re-issued in 1970 with a new sleeve (see illustration below right) and now included a remake of Shilo, a song that had previously been recorded for BANG records, and had appeared on the preceeding album, Just For You. His reasons for doing this was the fact that his old record label had re-issued the original version as a single, and it charted at #24, completely trouncing on the concurrantly released Until It's Time For You To Go (#53) on his then current label.
