Vein (2006) |
Altar (2006) |
Vein is the 15th (counting the alternate version of Soundtrack from Film "Mabuta no Ura") and 16th (Counting both versions of this particular release) album by Japanese experimental doom band Boris, released on a special printed vinyl (1500 copies) on October 2006 for $30. Two versions of this release exist, 1100 copies sold in the US contain one set of audio while 400 copies sold in Europe contain a completely different recording.[citation needed]
Vein's sound is somewhat of a crust-punk sound with elements of hardcore and drone. Also of note is that Atsuo contributes the lead vocals for the first time in many years, despite the liner notes saying that Takeshi is doing the vocal works.
The alternate recording has one side of pure noise drone and the other side being a long punk jam with lots of feedback. There are no vocals and almost no drumming on this version, which leaves Atsuo's role on the album in wonder (though he is most likely just playing guitar or composing the noise).

[edit] Trivia
At the very end of track 2 on the hardcore version you can hear a man say "И пусть посмеются над своими страстями" (Russian for "Let them laugh at their own passions"). This is a quote from Stalker, a 1979 film by Andrei Tarkovsky.
In the beginning of the final track on the hardcore version you can hear a man say "I Hela mitt liv har jag väntat på det här, Hela mitt liv har varit en enda väntan på det här" in Swedish, which in English is "In my whole life I have waited for this, my whole life has been one wait for this."
The liner notes label Takeshi as the vocalist, despite the fact Atsuo is the main vocalist of this release.
