[edit] 2007

We need an admin to update {{cfd}} and {{cfr}} ... I've already done {{cfm}} -- ProveIt (talk) 01:33, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the move

Just a note to say thanks for moving Tarkio College. It's a small thing, but it made me happy. Thanks for all your hard work!  :) Beginning 01:36, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pastorwayne

I left a comment on User:Pastorwayne and his rapid category creation at WP:ANI. The comment asks for Pastorwayne to be regulated regarding category creation. Feel free to comment. Dr. Submillimeter 22:42, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Airlines of the United States

Hi. I just created Template:Airlines of the United States and wanted to know if you thought it was a good idea and also whether you had any edits you think should be made to it. Lots of other countries have such a template, so I think it's in good form, but I still think it could use some work. I'm also wondering also whether it should be split to continental US and Alaska only airline templates, as Alaska in particular has a lot of little airlines, many of which have no articles to their name. Anyway, let me know what you think, or just edit away. Or if this isn't up your alley, then nevermind. :) Thanks. --Allstar86 07:26, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Windows Fiji

Hey there. Can you protect Windows Fiji and Windows "Fiji" from re-creation? You'd suggested it as a possibility here, and the page has since been created, deleted, and created again... apparently some wordpress blogger posted some very authoritative-sounding list of features that will be featured in this supposed OS, but... well, you know the content policies well enough to know that this isn't acceptable. :) Protecting this page until such a time that Microsoft's future plans are announced somewhat officially will save us a lot of hassle in having to delete this content over and over. Thanks. -/- Warren 16:43, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Quick Key

I noticed that you voted to delete the page 'Quick Key' as spam. Compared to you, I'm a newbie (only a few years) so I'm interested in learning what differentiates articles such as Quick Key from articles such as BabelMap, MainType, or Unicode Font Viewer. Thanks. Nathanaeljones 12:40, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Military brat

Hi Vegas, I have made a proposal on the discussion that I would like you to look at. Basically it is this. Military brats are the largest subcategory of Third Culture Kids (an article needing a fair amount of work.) I propose creating a new category Third Culture Kids and then creating a subcategory on military brats. This will alert those who are unfamiliar with the term that we are dealing with a scientifically studied definable term. It will let people know that we are not dealing with a mere "slang" term that those unfamiliar with the term might find offensive. As for it not being a defining characteristic for most people, the research does say otherwise. I think this compromise, however, will alert people that we are dealing with a scientific usage and think this should fly.Balloonman 17:20, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Cocktails

Hello. As a person possibly interested in cocktails and/or the WikiProject Cocktails, you may be interested to know that a name change is being considered for the WikiProject from Cocktails to Mixed Drinks. [edit] US Airways

The fleet table in the US Airways page is simple and dispalys basic, yet needed information. Changing it similar to the Singapore Airlines article will not accomplish anything. Considering what you, Vegaswikian, said in the talk page of US Air, the article shouldn't have America West airlines information displayed in it. The airline is merged, and seperate information is no longer needed. America West information can be displayed in the America West page! America West is now US Airways in passenger terms. Most of the airline is combined, therefore seperate information is not needed, as the www.usairways.com website is combined with America West.--Golich17 03:21, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I just believe the fleet table should remain how it is. Let them be seperate, but note above table that there is also an America West fleet. I just seem to like to stick with one table to create somewhat of a consistency. I believe this would.--Golich17 03:31, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
That looks and sounds good to me. I definately agree.--Golich17 03:37, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gaming/Gambling

You made a good point regarding my Harrah's edits, that "gaming companies" is the category name. I've submitted a request to rename the whole category, and I invite your comments: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_January_11#Category:Gaming_companies Alvis 08:08, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Straw poll

Please take a look at WP:MALL to which you have contributed, with respect to proposals to merge it with WP:LOCAL, to continue developing it, or to go ahead and implement it as a guideline. Thanks. Edison 21:08, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] el rancho

the reason for removing the entries for el rancho is because they are already listed, and have no corresponding link. --emerson7 | Talk 16:27, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

i really recommend that you read the mos:dab article. it gives very good guidelines on what should and should not be included in dab pages....including the appropriateness of using redlinks. i really think a revert war is stupid and unnecessary over such a small topic, but your usage of the dab article on el rancho is really not in accordance with the WP:MOS. --emerson7 | Talk 19:49, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 1 column or 3 columns

Hello

On your recent edit to List of personalities associated with Wall Street, you made the 3 columns that were there reduced to a single (1) column. I believe that 3 columns look better. Is there a reason for this? Does it look better now?

Thank you

[edit] Midway Airport Vote

Not a problem; I didn't think it looked right there anyways Sox23 00:06, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey Vegaswikian- how long should we wait until a decision is made regarding the name change? Sox23 03:35, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Okay thanks - that brings the poll to a close tomorrow night. Sox23 03:41, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Vegaswikian: After 6 days of voting/opinions, Midway Airport has a clear concensus to change the title to Chicago Midway International Airport. I, however don't know the proper steps to move the page to the specified location (because "Chicago Midway International Airport" is already a page in use)...by any chance do you know what the steps are? Sox23 21:37, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

nevermind, I figured it out...and am redirecting pages to Chicago Midway International Airport Sox23 22:32, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Casino articles

I didn't create the Bally's article. I changed its name because it was named Bally's Casino which contradicted articles such as Bally's Las Vegas. I did not want to lose the valuable photos in the article, so instead of deleting it I renamed it, also certain articles mistakenly linked to it as it was named Bally's Casino. The only thing valuable in the article were the two photos so I went back into the history and merged the photos into the already established Bally's Atlantic City article, which is what I should have done in the first place but was unsure how to it, but I thought it out and did it. Thanks for the heads up. I see that you, correctly, cleaned up the Category:Casinos in the United States and placed every article in the subcategories. Freddiem 06:16, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pro/Con discussion on the WP:NC:CITY

I just want to drop a note commending you on pushing the discussion in new direction with the Pro/Con discussion format instead of the same old polls and long threaded, conflicting comments. While I don't know if we could get a concrete consensus, the discussion seems a bit more organized and it feels like some progress is being made instead of us talking in circles. It was a great idea and I think I'm going to follow your example from here out as a perfect alternative to polling. Might I suggest you consider adding it to the guideline WP:POLL? Agne 22:34, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Chicago Midway International Airport

Yeah I guess you're right...but I don't have time to go back and change them right now....when I can get to it I will try to change them back Sox23 01:57, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] CSD's

As a note, I removed your {{db-bio}} templates from Felix Eldridge and Rose Jackson, as both have survived an AfD. This makes a speedy deletion proceduraly incorrect; if you believe these people are non-notable (and concensus on this issue would have changed), please renominate them at articles for deletion. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 08:48, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bermuda International Airport

[edit] AtTask

If you are going to speedy AtTask, please take the time to look through the rest of the products at List of project management software. I have been monitoring that page for over a year now and taking care of articles that are blatant advertising, but the ones that are there currently have made at least some effort to write legitimate articles. -- Renesis (talk) 21:15, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes, thank you, I understand the process. I'm an administrator myself and as I said, I've been monitoring the page for over a year. All I am saying is, please review the other products on that page, because few of them are any more notable than AtTask. I know the company, and although the article did not assert notability, it does fit the requirements and I'll probably get around to adding that information at some point. -- Renesis (talk) 00:28, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
So, you're willing to browse for articles to tag for speedy deletion, but not when a list full of them is presented to you? -- Renesis (talk) 03:14, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Manila airports

Yes, but airlines refer to it with different names for example South East Asian Airlines refer to Diosdado Macapagal International Airport as Angeles City. Asian Spirit, Asiana Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines refer to the airport as Clark. Tiger Airways refers to the airport as Manila-Clark. While, AirAsia refers to the airport as Clark-Manila. So we should then refer to it as Clark because most airlines refer to the airport as Clark. -chris^_^ 08:29, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)

Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)

It has been proposed that the following criteria be removed from this guideline: 1. The commercial organization is listed on ranking indices of important companies produced by well-known and independent publications.3 2. The commercial organization's share price is used to calculate one or more of the major managed stock market indices.4 Note this is not the same as simply being listed on a stock market. Nor is it the same as being included in an index that comprises the entire market. The broader or the more specialized the index, the less notability it establishes for the company.

We are close to evaluating consensus, please join with us in the discussion. --Kevin Murray 04:52, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Eastern Air Lines

I've added this back into Category:Defunct airlines of the United States, the problem is that if you orphan it completely than there's no way to navigate to it from category space. -- Prove It (talk) 06:19, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies

Hello. Could you please explain to me why you deleted Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies. It was listed as being Spam yet I feel that this is unfair. I provided a neutral introduction to the company and a list of its subsidiaries. My plan was to provide add further information on the company's patented technologies. Please explain where I went wrong. Shaunsummers 09:11, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Are you anti-Catholic or something?

Because I saw you nominated Category:Roman Catholic musicians for deletion Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 February 7. I suspect there is some bigotry involved, as you don't have the Jewish or Muslim musicians categories nominated for deletion. I'm still praying for you, that you may see the light. Tom Danson 22:34, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Airport frame

Hi. You gave me a little scare with those recent edits to {{Airport frame}}, as I was previewing an edit to an airport article and though I messed something up. Anyway, I'm not quite clear on what you were trying to fix, but if you let me know I might be able to help. -- Zyxw 09:27, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

I was trying to get the templates out of Category:Airports since they are not really part of the encyclopedia. Vegaswikian 09:29, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
I have removed Category:Airports from {{Airport frame}} and all the other templates associated with airport infoboxes: {{Airport title}}, {{Airport image}}, etc. This category being added is my fault: I originally did it in response to {{Airport infobox}} being tagged as {{uncategorized}}, then left it there when I later added the more appropriate Category:Transportation infobox templates. -- Zyxw 10:23, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Worldspan

Since you've followed up on one Worldspan-related edit by Worldspan1 (talk contribs), is there any chance I could get you to follow up on the edit that I reference on Talk:Worldspan. I wish I could, but I'm just too easily accused of bias, given where I work. I'd rather someone else look at the text fo the edits and make the call with a more neutral outlook. -Harmil 20:44, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. -Harmil 21:54, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Power stations

I think the power stations in this category are categorized well. I am not very familiar with the U.S. energy sector, but I think it's right to categorize Moss Landing Power Plant as a gas-fired power station (advanced by used technology, but still in principle thermal power plant, which uses natural gas). Fibrominn could be categorized as a biofuel power station or biomass-fired power station (biofuel has little bit wider meaning than biomass). I don't knew if there is more articles about power plants using biofuels.Beagel 21:42, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I am going to be proposing a merge soon to put the Humpty Dumpty mess with Botts' dots back together ...

Hello:

Although most of your edits have been very good ones, I have to disagree with what you did with Botts' dots. I don't think Elbert Dysart Botts is significant enough to warrant a separate article from Botts dots. Furthermore, by cutting up my carefully drafted prose and then failing to redraft the severed pieces appropriately, you ended up creating two articles that don't really connect very well with each other. It's simply not clear from reading the Botts' dot article (that is, for persons who are neither experienced Wikipedia users nor roadgeeks) that the information about how the dots were actually created is hidden in the article on Mr. Botts himself. The article as it stands merely refers to the problem that warranted the dots' creation and the subsequent legislative mandate, but not how California got from point A to B. And the passage you copied into the Elbert Botts article is not long enough to warrant a "main article link/brief summary" section in the Botts' dot article.

If you don't object within a few weeks (or clean up both articles so that they actually make sense), I'm going to propose a merge of the two articles so Humpty Dumpty can be put back together. --Coolcaesar 07:22, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Extreme mastication

Why did you remove the speedy on this article? (diff) First, I don't see how that redirect is at all relevant, and second, that was a totally unrelated vandal's edit. You should be careful about editing things without first seeing what they do, who contributed, and where they link. -Mulder416 08:49, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

It originally pointed to Horace Fletcher. Here's a little snippet from the article. Horace Fletcher (1849–1919) was an American health-food faddist of the Victorian era who earned the nickname "The Great Masticator,"... Besides, someone typing "extreme mastication" instead of "mastication" is implausible enough to be a speedy deletion in its own right. -Mulder416 08:56, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] wetlands

I know, but hesitated over that to see what other editors might do. In the 'wetlands by state' categories, I am going to combine all the items in the bogs, marshes and swamps of the state--there not being enough of any of these in a given state to justify separate categories for each--in my mind. As a result, the bogs, marches and swamps categories must still contain what they currently contain to provide the distintion they currently have. Thus, my hesitation over the wetlands articles that were not so categorized. Thanks Hmains 21:18, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] improper category deletions

You recently deleted Category:Cities in Turkish Kurdistan and Category:Villages in Turkish Kurdistan after closing the mass CFD. This seems improper to me; the result you gave was "No Consensus" and the deleted categories had been populated when the review began -- they were depopulated during the debate by advocates of deletion. You have implicitly endorsed this tactic. --Diyarbakır 08:20, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, they were empty at the time of the deletion for several days. So they were valid canidates for a speedy deletion. If you believe that I should not have deleted these, then you can use Deletion review. However I suggest that you wait for the naming issue on those categories to reach consensus. Vegaswikian 08:24, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, but by that logic I should have edited-wared over the depopulation of the categories.
I read an article once that pointed out that wikipedia is not a place to build an encyclopeda, but a place where you can go to have a fight. This is, to a large extent, true, and is unappealing. --Diyarbakır 08:31, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

An editor has asked for a deletion review of (above_cats). Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Diyarbakır 08:49, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

It came out a bit of a mess; I will try and fix it. --Diyarbakır 08:49, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

And for your total joy, a different editor has asked for a deletion review of the ones that didn't get deleted, arguing that they should be deleted. Please do come to deletion review and let us know your thoughts (in both reviews) as to why the close was the way it was. (Since you aren't a regular, yes, you can endorse your own close.) GRBerry 19:05, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] School address Template:Infobox Education in Canada

Obviously, anybody who considers something (a school, or anything with an address) to be notable, would consider the address worth including. Of course, if you don't think the school should be included, you don't want the adddress included. It seems your sole reason for the removal of the address field in this case, is your long standing position, of wanting to delete almost all school articles. Note, that while there was discussion on the talk page of what to include (like the postal code, which we agreed to exclude), you didn't say anything whatsoever there. Instead you just acted unilaterally (as usual) to harm a *large* number of articles at once. --Rob 07:33, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I believe the importance of location is project related. If a change is being proposed, we should ask for a consensus opinion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Schools and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Education in Canada, particularly when it effects so many articles. There may be a point to it, but I can't see this working out for schools: a school's context is practically defined by its location. Regards, --Jh12 09:05, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Page deleted

Hi, I was wondering why our page was deleted? Titled "RNL Design" and deleted late Dec. thanks, RNL Architecture 22:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Not sure this is the right way to respond but the firm has designed several notable architecture projects during the last 50 years. We're referred to on Emaar's page, which has a lot of information about all of their projects. There are other architects on your site. What is the criteria for who is included? By the way, I couldn't get a login with RNL Design. We don't want to host our web site here, just offer information about the projects we designed. thanks. RNL Architecture 22:55, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 1 column or 3 columns

Hello

On your recent edit to List_of_Artists_under_the_Decca_Records_label, you made the 3 columns that were there reduced to a single (1) column. I believe that 3 columns look better. Is there a reason for this? Does it look better now? Would definitely appreciate return to 3 columns.imfred 13:03, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

No, I wasn't having difficulty with my browser's rendering of one column. It was just that 3 columns gave a much neater lay-out than a long string of artists in one column. Think I actually inherited that lay-out when I entered two full new sections to that article. —imfred

When I inherited the lay-out there were forced Template:Column-begin and Template:Column-break instructions. I see you have substituted that with a column-count, which in my browser (IE6) renders one lo-o-ong column. The example you cite renders two columns.imfred 13:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Thnx. I notice on WP:CV at the top of the page there is no time frame mentioned, just to request speedy, can you point me to a better explanation of proper procedure? I run across alot of obvious copyvio while working on dead end pages. --killing sparrows 00:10, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] FRS Plus

Your speedy deletion of the FRS Plus page was an arbitrary decision you made. I request a coherent answer to why you feel this is not a "notable" product.Americanuck 05:18, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

...I'm not done with the article. There is plenty more to write about. The notability is the combination of anti-oxidants, vitamins, and caffeine into a single drink. This hasn't been done before. The drink was created by professors with PHD's, and they make claims that the drink has all sorts of benefits such as preventing cancer and Parkinson's. People will want to see if these claims are valid, and could come to Wikipedia to find independent research.Americanuck 05:27, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

How can I maintain a good article when within the hour it is created it is speedily deleted? Please restore it, so I can add the information that makes this article "notable". Americanuck 05:34, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

An editor has asked for a deletion review of FRS Plus (antioxidant health drink). Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Americanuck 05:52, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Standard for 3 digit route shields

There is currently no consensus (that I can find anyway) for the shield size of the 3 digit routes shown in the list of highways numbered XXX. I have brought the issue of establishing a standard for these routes up in the talk page of the U.S. roads wikiproject. Please read my comment here. Basically, the only standard that I'm aware of in relation to this is the one for the Maryland wikiproject. As you can see here (in the routes junctioned section), the standard size for these shields in Maryland is 20px for the 1 and 2 digit routes and 25px for the 3 digit routes. As you find on the actual roads, the 3 digit route shields are bigger than the 2 digit route shields.

[edit] Lawry's

You removed category entries for the various locations, with the comment "Restauarant cats are for where it is based in and not for every location."

Well, OK, I suppose, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The names of the cats are "Restaurants in xxx", not "Restaurants originated in xx" or "Restaurants headquartered in xxx"... and it doesn't seem like the origin/headquarters city is all that interesting anyway. If you're in Las Vegas and hungry, shouldn't Category:Restaurants in Las Vegas give you some hints of places you might try?

(OTOH, the text on the cat page says "originating in".)

Jordan Brown 16:36, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Your point about the names of the restaurants in cats is a good one. However, the logic behind it is simple. If these categories were used to list every location, the list of categories on the page could be longer then the article. Also, wikipedia is not a travel guide. There are other wikis for that purpose. Vegaswikian 19:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
(Let's keep this discussion here, in one place. I'll watch.)
Well, yes, for McDonald's that'd certainly be true, and even for lesser chains like Red Lobster, but that doesn't seem like a problem for a restaurant with only a handful of locations. (But where would the line be drawn?)
OTOH, is the list of all restaurants that "originate" in a particular city really interesting? I suppose it wouldn't be the most boring category in Wikipedia, but...
Perhaps the right answer is to link from Wikipedia off to some related (preferably WikiMedia) travel guide that *would* list all of the restaurants in a city. Shrug. I have a hard time drawing the line between "encyclopedia" and "worthwhile information that doesn't belong in an encyclopedia".

Actually I have already started the discussion at cfd which is where this should be discussed. The discssion is located here. Vegaswikian 20:06, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help Resolving a conflict

I have read the pages about this on wikipedia and I have came to you because you seem to be a person who knows how wikipedia is supposed to work and are most likely 100% neutral on this matter. I am involved in a rather intense edit war with two other editors of the article Miriam Rivera. In the last days the user User:Jokestress has quite reasonably asked for the article to be backed up with more reliable sources. Well I found them and that seems to have placated her. She has acted in 100% reasonable way in all of this. The problem arises in that she has asked in the spirt of resolving the conflict we were having other people who are not 100% neutral it seems to comment on the matter. These being the user User:Longhair and the userUser:Alison in particular who have not bothered to justify anything that they have done. Longhiar being an admin seems to feel no need to discuss anything and I feel is abusing her powers. Is there anything you can do? --Hfarmer 05:03, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion tags of Macspeech

Hi. I was just browsing the pages for speedy deletion and I noticed you tagged this with, among others, db-spam. While I do think the article falls under the db-corp criteria, it isn't really spam; the tone isn't that of an advertisement. The one should be enough. Crystallina 04:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The University Computer Club

An editor added a reference and removed your {{prod}} tag at this article, but I felt that the reference did not satisfy your original prod concern. Since the tag was removed, I put the article up at AfD instead. Feel free to contribute at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The University Computer Club.
