Vefsnfjord

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vefsnfjord is a fjord in Helgeland traditional district, Nordland county, Norway. It is about 50-60 km long. The fjord begins at Tjøtta on the south side of Alstenøya and meets Leirfjord at Sundøya before turning southerly as it proceeds inland to Mosjøen. The outer part of the fjord is also called Sørfjord.

Several large rivers run into the Vefsnfjord, including the Vefsna, Fusta and Drevja. All three of the rivers are traditionally excellent salmon fishing rivers, although they now have been infected with the salmon parasite Gyrodactylus salaris.
