Vedaranyam is a panchayat town in Nagapattinam district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Vedaranyam had a population of 31,728. Males constitute 48% of the population and females 52%. Vedaranyam has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 64%. The population of the village is 5,000, with one religion and cast (Hindu), Vanniyar Padayachi. The village is surrounded by water in all direction. East Bay of bengal and River uppanar in other three sides. This village is in vedaraniyam town panchayat.
Main culture of this village is fishing. One decade back 99% most of the occupants primary occupation was fishing. Currently many are now Engineers and IT consultants.
This village is Tsunami affected village.
