I added the "cleanup" tag because a lot of this reads like an advertisement of some sort. - furrykef (Talk at me) 06:37, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

It rather does, but I don't see much uninformative or realy bad in the article... Maybe Vector is just a really good Linux distro? Anyway, maybe I'm biased, since the article conviced me to try Vector out... Installing it now. ^_^ --Jamesgecko 23:54, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
It does sound a lot like an advertisement. There was recently an article about this distribution on Slashdot, and it does sound good. The main thing this article needs is cleaning up. --roger6106 19:07, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cleaning Up

I myself think that all Linux distribution pages on wikipedia should follow the same style and tone as well as sharing similar layout with the same headings that way it would be easy to work with them, also some other operating system related pages have a bar at the bottom, with links to other versions (or distributions in the case of Linux) I think that it would be much better that way.

That sounds like a good plan to me. Someone would have to be willing to dedicate a lot of time to it. --roger6106 23:19, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

-- Well , you're fully in your right to think so. I think otherwise ; As far as I have experienced ,VL's main slogan is "CHOICE". And the choice of those , involved with writing this article, happened to be to write it in this form. As for the content ; Although it's a bit dated at this moment , it's still honest to good. I , personally , don't want a "straightjacket-form" for Distro-Articles ; Each Distro transposes it's own identity in the form it sees most fit. Some very formal and uptight , others very loose and casual. Consider it an indication of the Distro community's mentality. Best regards, SuSE-Refugee.

VL Board-Admin.

I certainly agreed with some of their criticisms and I have since updated the content according to new information and stylistic requests. Much of the expanded stub was written by me and I do believe the comments regarding salesman-like tone were valid. Of course, our distro is still portrayed in a fairly positive light (I'm not going to trash talk it) while still allowing criticism.

Is it any better now? (as of April 2006)

Saulgoode 14:20, 8 December 2006 (UTC): I disagree with the characterization of this article sounding like an advertisement; perhaps it is overly conversational in tone and the information could be presented in a more concise manner but the overall presentation is a comparison to previous versions of the VL distribution & not an "us versus them" advocacy.

Personally, I don't find it to be a perfect example of a Wikipedia article but I should like to hear some specifics about what makes it distasteful to the Wikipedia editorial staff before proposing any changes. None of my criticisms would fall under the realm of "blatant advertisement" and would more tend to address the methodology of presenting desirable features as improvements to previous versions (such presentation is mainly beneficial to past users of Vector and could be presented in a more direct manner to the public at large).
