[edit] Mormonism/Judaism page
I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to reply - I've been a bit out of commission, and thinking about the page is hurting my brain. We definitely need to be patient, persistent and add back in much of the deleted content, but also learn from their points.
In watching the Judaism project, they've done this at other pages - Christianity/Judaism, Islam/Judaism, etc. But the outcome is always better. They come, complain, made edits, get compromises, etc. I think it best to work with them and edit along side them. Frustrating, yes, but we need to be patient and fix the contextual issues. Remember, even though we share more in common with them than we do with traditional christianity in many ways, we still have a vastly different terminology with both - which is causing much of the confusion. We should back up and start simple. For example, some of the objectiosn they had were to references to messianic judaism or us claiming to be a "new" israel, when it is very much not the case. They need education as to what our terminology is. Sorry I'm not of more help right now - I'll ask Tom Haws to step in - he's a consensus builder. -Visorstuff 15:18, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for making me aware of the Feat. Article Nom for the page. It's impressive, and I'd like to offer more support, but for the time being I'm between finals and interviews for a full-time job — so I don't have the time to really give it the full examination it merits in order for me to cast an informed vote. I'll keep an eye on it and try to jump in afterwards if it's still up in the air; in the meantime, good luck and best wishes. Tijuana Brass 08:03, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Child of record comment
Generally, a person isn't added as a child of record unless they are blessed. I'm not sure what happened in your situation, or if policies have changed, but a parent can have a child blessed and a record created for the child regardless of their gender, as long as the other parent says it is ok.
- "When either of a child's parents is a nonmember, the bishop should obtain verbal permission from both parents before the child is blessed. He explains that a membership record will be prepared for the child after the blessing. He also should tell them (1) that ward members will contact them periodically and (2) that when the child turns eight the bishop or the stake missionaries will visit them and propose that the child be baptized."
If your wife refused to give permission then the full-time missionaries will teach/baptise them. However, this is not a gender issue - but a consent issue. The same is true of a mother - the father should give permission. Now, in practice, maybe something different can happen at times, especially with an out-of-wedlock birth; however the policy is pretty clear. Trödel•talk 22:37, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
- I know this is an old discussion, Trödel's page had a link here; I don't believe a child must be blessed in order become a child of record. When a new family joins the church, the children in the family who are under 8 also become children of record, although they are typically not blessed. Isaac Crumm 03:41, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

More notes: The main trouble is that FoTW has a noncommercial license, incompatible with Wikipedia :( A second problem is that the only reference to a blue ensign for New England was an old printing error.[1] If you would like to have that flag around anyway, let me know and I'll gladly whip up a replacement with a compatible license.
