Vasogenic edema

Vasogenic edema is an Edema due to increased extracellular water due to break down of blood brain barrier. Generally more prominent in white matter than gray matter.

Results from abnormally permeable vessels adjecent to inflammatory process or neoplasm. Integrity of normal brain barrier is disrupted and increased vascular permeability allows fluid to escape to intercellular spaces of the brain.
