Varvari
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Varvari are supporters of Budućnost football club from Podgorica, Montenegro. They also support all clubs named Budućnost from Podgorica. Varvari means barbarians in English, and their mascot is Hägar the Horrible. Varvari organisation was established in 1987, and today they are the best known and the largest football firm in Montenegro.
Their traditional colours are blue and white, which are also the colours of all Budućnost clubs. When Budućnost is playing at home ground, they occupy northern stand of Podgorica city stadium, called Śever. They also have a reserved stand at Morača Sports Center, as strong supporters of Budućnost basketball club, even though in early 2000s they have been boycotting basketball team, because of the dispute with the club management.
Even though most of the members are Montenegrins, and thus were supporters of Montenegrin independence, during the referendum campaign period Varvari frequently emphasized the fact they are non-political group, with no interest in political issues. They also furiously oppose any form of implementation of gay rights in Montenegro, as they besieged the building of Montenegrin national television during the guest appearance of notable gay rights activist from Serbia. They are also sporadically engaged in fights with Montenegrin Police and other football firms, notably those from Serbia.
