[edit] History

The airline was started operations in September 2000. It was a wholly owned subsidiary of Varig and employs 1,345 staff[citation needed]. VarigLog was purchased for US$ 48,2 millions by Volo do Brasil in December 2005. The Volo group is a consortium started by Matlin Patterson and Brazilian investors (Marco Antonio Audi, Marco Hapfel and Luiz Gallo). The negotiation was concluded in June 2006, after regulatory approval. The National Civil Aviation Agency (Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil, dubbed "ANAC", equivalent to the American FAA) imposed several demands to accept the purchase. In July 2006, Volo bought its one-time parent Varig and Rio Sul Serviços Aéreos Regionais (a subsidiary of Varig).
