[edit] Image Tagging Image:Guntherimages2.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Guntherimages2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. CLW 17:23, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Guntherimages2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Guntherimages2.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. CLW 17:23, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Bobbytrendy.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Bobbytrendy.JPG. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Bobby Trendy

Bobby Trendy has been proposed for deletion. Please see WP:NOT and WP:BIO for general concerns. If you can improve the article to clearly meet Wikipedia's standards for inclusion, please do so.

If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the prod notice, the article may be deleted without further discussion. NickelShoe 05:27, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

Bobby Trendy is now being discussed for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bobby Trendy. NickelShoe 13:58, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Miami Ink

Varun, the top section of the article already contains their names. The section I removed contained their names again, and links to articles for individual members of the show. All the articles had been speedy-deleted under WP:CSD A7 as individually non-notable, and there was no longer need for the links. Sincerely, Crzrussian 16:02, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Last Night's Party

Last Night's Party has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt this website might not be notable enough for an article. Please review WP:WEB for the relevant guidelines and improve the article if possible. NickelShoe 00:27, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A worry

I noticed that you deleted a little more than necessary from Talk:Niggerball. Looking at it twice, it looks like you deleted a suggestion (what I wouldn't give if they'd also take all the porn actor/actress entries and put them in one article), and an observation about Wikipedia's risks. In another case it looked like you were blanking "old business" in a talk article. We _can_ clean up too much, and I'd rather not clean up at all than risk undoing someone else's efforts. Just a worrier, Shenme 07:11, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:N7902415 527079 598.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:N7902415 527079 598.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Image Hosting

It would best to upload Your own images to Wikimedia Commons[1]. Images from Wikimedia Commons can be used on all wikipedias. Thank you very much! feydey 11:28, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello!

Thanks for uploading some pictures to Wikipedia. I wanted to make sure you were aware of some of the requirements and good practices for uploaded images.

  • Pick an image name.
When uploading an image, pick a file name that is descriptive, and unique. Remember that many images may be uploaded about the same topic, and remember that names are case sensitive.
  • Source the image.
On the image description page, explain where the image came from. If you created the image yourself, then say so. If it's from the web, give a URL. If it's a screenshot of a movie or game, or a scan from a book, give the title.
  • Provide copyright and license information.
This part is a little bit trickier, but it's very important. The copyright of the image generally belongs to whomever created it.
If it's a photograph you took, or an image you created (modifying an image that already exists doesn't count) in software like Photoshop or GIMP, then you own the copyright. To upload it to Wikipedia, you must agree to license it under the GFDL (which allows anyone to use it, but requires that they give credit to the original author and requires that any further edit to the image be licensed under the GFDL as well) or release it into the public domain (which allows anyone to use it for any purpose without restriction.) Do this by placing an appropriate tag on the image description page, like {{GFDL}} or {{PD}}. Be sure to mention that you created the image. If you're using {{PD}}, you may also want to use {{NoRightsReserved}}, since there is some dispute as to whether one may grant items into the public domain.
If you didn't create the image, or the copyright somehow belongs to another party (like a screenshot, which you might "create", but the copyright belongs to the author of the movie or video game), then you need to find another tag that describes the copyright status of the image. Images used on Wikipedia need to be free for our use and the use of sites which reproduce our content. This means that images cannot have a restriction such as "only for use by Wikipedia", or "for non-commercial use only", or "for educational use". Images without a free license may be usable in certain articles under fair use, but such a use should be justified on the image description page.
  • Describe the image.
To another reader, the image may not be immediately understood. A caption in an article doesn't explain the image to a visitor who sees it on its image page. Put a brief explanation of what is in the image on the image description page, similar to what you might include in a caption on an article.

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:N7951224_31744509_4351.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:N7951224_31744509_4351.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Youtube

Sorry...should have explained better...got confused with my other reverts: links to Youtube are highly discouraged as they are often links to material in violation of copyright. Gzkn 12:03, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Links to material in violation of copyright, such as the Weird Al video you linked to on Youtube, are not allowed. See Wikipedia:External_links#Restrictions_on_linking. Gzkn 07:30, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use images

Hi! I noticed that you have displayed a few fair use images on your userpage. Unlike free images, fair use images can be used only in articles on the topic they describe. Their use elsewhere amounts to copyright violation. Could you please remove them from your page at the earliest? Thank you!--thunderboltz(Deepu) 06:06, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

PS: Check out and join the Indian and Kerala WikiProjects ( at WP:INDIA and WP:KERALA ) in case you are interested.

[edit] Your misconception

Hi there.

You posted the following comment on Suburbs of Johannesburg

Sentiment for Apartheid?
"A street in central Hillbrow. Under apartheid Hillbrow used to be one of the nicest suburbs in the city; however, it is now extremely dangerous." This image description reveals a thinly-veiled racist agenda. The wording should be changed.
Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Suburbs_of_Johannesburg"

The comment was inappropriate. You could have asked for substantiation instead of implying that the editor in question supported the apartheid regime. For interest, although I cannot support the quote with peer reviewed facts, I can say that Hillbrow was (during apartheid) a safer, nicer area. This was for the simple reason that it was a "white" area and therefore had stricter movement laws and heavier policing. After the fall of apartheid, Hillbrow became what is found in most cities around the world... an inner city "slum". Because policing was now more dispersed, there were fewer police to control the area which is becoming over populated with immigrants and drug lords.

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Lili boniche alger alger album cover.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Lili boniche alger alger album cover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:N7951224 31744509 4351.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:N7951224 31744509 4351.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you created this image yourself, please look at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#For image creators, select one of those tags, and add it to the image. To do that, simply go to Image:N7951224 31744509 4351.jpg, click "edit this page", and add the appropriate tag. Be sure to remove the current tag indicating a lack of licensing!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me at User talk:Angr or at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. —Angr 19:21, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Allie_DiMeco.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Allie_DiMeco.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ↔NMajdantalk 14:18, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Talvin Singh - OK tur

A tag has been placed on Talvin Singh - OK tur, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Sue H. [edit] Unfree images in User:VarunRajendran/images

Hi, VarunRajendran. Per item #9 of Wikipedia:Fair use criteria, we don't use unfree images in the User: namespace. Could you please cleanup User:VarunRajendran/images? Let me know if you need any help. Best regards, --Abu badali (talk) 23:34, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks a lot!
Another point...
About the use of Image:GeriUnionJack.jpg in Geri Halliwell... we only allow the use of unfree images to illustrate how some person looks like in very restricted cases, when we have reasons to believe that a free image would be specially difficult to be produced (for instance, if the person in question is dead, incarcerated, missing, retired from public life, etc.). That's what's called the "irreplaceability criterion", and it's the first criterion in Wikipedia:Fair use criteria. It says that unfree images can only be used when "No free equivalent is available or could be created ". Unfree images of living people are indeed one of the fair use counterexamples in Wikipedia:Fair use#Counterexamples (item #8, specifically). I'm removing this image from that article again. I hope you understand. --Abu badali (talk) 03:16, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
