Vapaire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vapaire is a device that condenses water vapor into pure drinkable liquid water. Vapaires are for home use to supply drinking water, especially in areas where there is no local fresh water supply (no wells, rivers, lakes, etc.). A vapaire's condensation coils extract water from microscopic water droplets (vapor) in the air. The process is similar to the formation of dew in the morning. Vapaires are modified dehumidifiers, which also extract water vapor from the air. Vapaires look like water coolers and run on electricity. One vapaire makes about five to ten gallons of water a day, or about two to five gallons in a dry environment, because there is less water vapor present in the air. The water filter used is a reverse osmosis water processor, the same water filter used to make bottled water.
The device's air filter also cleans the air, removing pollutants. The Vapaire can help people who live in developing nations, where water is rare or polluted. Vapaires also turn human breath and sweat into pure drinking water. This makes it valuable to the space program for water-recycling in space. Vapaires are used in autonomous buildings for self-sufficiency.
Vapaires are expensive, with prices ranging in the $1000s. The vapaire marketing slogan is 'Water out of thin Air'. As of 2001, Vapaire is a proprietary technology owned by AIM (Assist International Marketing).
