The Vancouver Folk Music Festival takes place in the third weekend of July. Founded in 1978, this annual festival is located at Jericho Beach Park on the west side of Vancouver, British Columbia.

In the past it has attracted artists from all over the world and from all walks of life. Ani Difranco, Utah Phillips, Tuvan Throat singers, Sarah Harmer, Veda Hille, Feist, K'naan, Ferron, and many more artists have appeared over the years. In recent years the festival has added more hip-hop, and spoken word to the standard collection of singer-songwriters, and ethnic groups.

Attendance varies from 10,000 to 30,000 festivalgoers, depending on the weather, popularity of featured artists, competition from other festivals, and other factors. Historically, the VFMF has eschewed corporate sponsorship, which has led to various unusual advertising gimmicks on the part of companies not related to or supported by the VFMF but wishing to take advantage of a large "captive audience" (most notoriously, advertising planes buzzing festivalgoers with low-level bannered fly-bys.

The VFMF is produced with the help of over 1000 loyal and hard working volunteers each year.
