Van Cortlandt Village, Bronx

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Van Cortlandt Village is the name of a neighborhood in the Kingsbridge Heights section of the Bronx. Named after Van Cortlandt Park, which is located in the area, the neighborhood is home to a primarily Jewish community (due to the longstanding residents of the Amalgamated Housing Cooperative and its garment-center union-related population and their descendants), with some Irish and Hispanic residents. As of late, Albanian residents have slowly been growing in this area. Van Cortlandt Village is also known for being one of the few neighborhoods in the Bronx that has maintained many white residents that didn't leave during White flight issues in the 1970s. The BX1, BX2, BX10, and BXM3 run through this area.
